UPDATE: Iran and the Syrian regime prepare to attack Deir ez-Zor

Taking advantage of the Turkish incursion into northern Syria, Iranian and Syrian forces prepare for an attack against SDF-held areas in Deir ez-Zor.

According to information we obtained from reliable sources, an Iranian commander from the Syrian regime’s air defense intelligence held a meeting with Iranian and Syrian forces yesterday. The meeting took place in the center of Iranian Hec Eli el-Cifrî in Deir Ez-Zor.


A number of Iranian officers were present at the meeting which was attended by 70 Syrian and Iranian soldiers who were told that the SDF-held areas in Deir ez-Zor would be attacked and captured.

Sources say that the Syrian regime-affiliated paramilitary force Difa El Watani is preparing to attack Deir ez-Zor. According to the sources, the date for the planned aggression has not been designated yet.

The Turkish state has launched a military offensive to invade North and East Syria on Wednesday.

Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) who have defeated ISIS after years of a struggle with great sacrifices, are mounting the very same resistance against the Turkish army and jihadist mercenary allies today.

SDF are not allowing the occupation forces to advance on the ground as they retaliate against the attacks and inflict heavy blows against the Turkish forces and their allies in various parts of the region.

Over 70 thousand people displaced by Turkish attacks on NE Syria

The peoples of North and East Syria are faced with a human tragedy after the military offensive of the Turkish state that seeks to occupy the region. North and East Syria Foreign Relations Department Spokesman Kemal Akif announced that 10 civilians have been killed by the aerial and artillery attacks of occupation forces in various areas as much as could be ascertained by their side.

Akif stated that the number of those who have lost their lives remains unclear as many of those wounded are in critical conditions. He said at least 20 civilians were wounded in the areas targeted by artillery shelling.

Akif stated that Turkish jets struck a convoy of civilians and tribal leaders who left Raqqa for Gire Spi to support the resistance. Many civilians ended up injured.

Remarking that the number of those who had to leave their homes because of ongoing attacks has exceeded 70 thousand, Akif continued; “Dirbêsiyê and Serêkaniyê have been evacuated almost completely. Serekaniye was targeted by 7 airstrikes on the first day and Ayn Issa by 2 air raids. On the second day, 7 airstrikes were carried out in Serekaniye, 3 in Gire Spi and 2 in Ayn Issa and Derik each.”

According to Akif’s statement, the Mabruka Camp which houses more than 7 thousand refugees has been relocated to another area on the third day of the invasión offensive, October 11.

Akif said they met the basic needs of refugees and called for intervention by the international community in the face of the human tragedy in the region.


Fighters of the People’s/Women’s Defense Units (YPG/YPJ) are giving a heroic fight against the Turkish army in the Serekaniye city, one of the main targets of the invasion operation.

YPG/YPJ fighters spoke to ANF and stated that their battle will continue until it achieves a result. The fighters vowed to fight to the end and to never allow an invasion by the Turkish state.
