Why is Trump so courteous to Keith Starmer despite their ideological differences? Because Trump would have to ask UK for permission to take Greenland!

The Greek Courier

It struck me so peculiarly that Donald Trump has been treating the Labour Prime Minister in England so differently than other politicians who are ideologically so different from him. Initially, I discovered that the City of London was extremely supportive of Trump's ambition to become the 47th POTUS, meaning the banks preferred him instead of Kamala Harris for their own reasons. But today the mysterious puzzle was solved by an article in the Mirror by  Antony Clements-Thrower. "Trump's obsession with taking Greenland for the US could be scuppered by the UK, as a pact made more than a century ago means London has first dibs'.

As  Antony Clements-Thrower writes "the newly inaugurated president has threatened several times during both terms he wants to make the Danish territory part of the US for “international security”. His comments have been scorned by the international community, as he has not ruled out using military power to persuade Denmark to cede the territory. However, if Trump was to make a move to take Greenland he would have to do so with the approval of Sir Keir Starmer, thanks to a 108-year-old agreement."

As Tom Høyem, Copenhagen’s representative in Greenland between 1982 and 1987, told the Sunday Times yesterday: “If Trump tried to buy Greenland, he would have to ask London first. The United Kingdom demanded in 1917 if Greenland were to be sold then the UK should have the first right to buy it.” Oops! Trump is too little too late. The Brits have got him by the balls.

Apparently, former President Woodrow Wilson passed on taking Greenland in a deal with Denmark for the US Virgin Islands. Despite being urged to do so, Wilson—the 28th US President—said, “It’s not worth anything at all. It’s just ice. I don’t want it.”

During a Q&A on Air Force One, Trump again insisted he wanted to wrestle Greenland from Denmark, as well as suggesting Canada could become the US’ 51st state. He told reporters: “"I do believe Greenland we'll get because it really has to do with freedom of the world.

The Canada Menace

Trump also continued his rhetoric about Canada becoming an American State, infuriating even more Canadian politicians. “ I love Canada, I have so many friends up in Canada. They like us, and they like me but Canada's been taking advantage of the United States for years, and we're not going to let that happen. I don't want to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on supporting the country unless that country is a state. If it's a state, the people of Canada will pay a much lower tax. I view it as, honestly, a country that should be a state. Then, they'll get much better treatment, much better care, and much lower taxes and they'll be much more secure."
