Trump posts fat JD Vance meme sparking rumor they've fallen out

Story by Jack Hobbs
President Donald Trump has sparked rumors that he and Vice President JD Vance may have fallen out after the president posted a photo of Vance that doesn't show him in a good light.

The photo shows Vance with a fat face, rosy cheeks, and long, wavy hair. It has gained popularity as a meme making fun of the vice president after his tumultuous meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Trump used the picture in a Truth Social media post depicting him and Vance in police cars chasing former President Barack Obama, who is driving a white Ford Bronco mirroring the O.J. Simpson car chase in 1994. The usage of Vance's photoshopped face set off a storm of comments.

"They used the fat face JD Vance meme for his picture," one person on X commented. "They used Obama's real one, but JD got the fat face treatment. Trump hates that man."

"Interesting choice to pick that image of JD Vance," a second person commented. A third person asked, "I wonder how JD feels about that choice of his image?"

"Even Trump is on the JD fat goofy meme train," they added. "This is as much a dig at his own VP. Vance is going to be praying for a Jan. 6 type lynch mob long before this s*** is over," a fourth person added.

Vance has yet to comment on the post.

JD Vance meme prompted arrest

Several variations of the meme have been created, including one in which Vance is bald. Last month, a 21-year-old Norwegian tourist was denied entry to the U.S. due to a meme of Vance.

According to Mads Mikkelsen, he arrived at Newark Airport in New Jersey on June 11, only to be detained by border control and put in a cell, as he shared with Norwegian news outlet Nordlys. Mikkelsen stated to the outlet that he was planning on visiting a friend in Austin, Texas, but instead experienced what he describes as "harassment and abuse of power" by U.S. immigration officials.

"I felt prejudiced, suspected and simply humiliated even then, in front of many other people at the airport," the Tromsø native recalled. "They took me to a room with several armed guards, where I had to hand over my shoes, mobile phone and backpack," he added.

Mikkelsen said that officials interrogated him about his travel plans and intentions before shifting to more personal questions. "They asked direct questions about drug smuggling, terrorist plans and right-wing extremism, completely without reason," he alleged.

"They demanded full information about everyone I was going to meet in the US, including name, address, phone number, and what they did for work," he added. Mikkelsen's mother was scheduled to join him a few weeks into his trip, and together they intended to explore several national parks.

"I had traveled for twelve hours, slept poorly, and was physically and mentally completely exhausted even before they started the questioning," he added. According to Mikkelsen, agents threatened him "with a minimum fine of $5,000 or five years in prison if I refused to provide the password to my phone."

After relinquishing his phone password, Mikkelsen found out that he wouldn't be able to proceed with his vacation due to two images found by officers. One photo depicted a meme of JD Vance sporting a bald, egg-like dome that went viral in March, even shared by the vice president himself.

The other showcased Mikkelsen featuring a wooden pipe he crafted ages ago. "Both pictures had been automatically saved to my camera roll from a chat app, but I really didn't think that these innocent pictures would put a stop to my entry into the country," the young man confessed. Mikkelsen alleges that thereafter he was subject to a strip search and obliged to undergo blood sampling, a facial scan, and fingerprinting.

DHS denied that the photos had anything to do with the reason why he was not allowed in the country. A spokesperson told the Irish Star that Mikkelsen was denied because he had admitted to using drugs.
