James Cameron, creator of the legendary Terminator film series, warns that reality is disturbingly approaching the nightmarish science fiction scenarios he envisioned decades ago.
Speaking about the existential threats facing the planet today, the award-winning director emphasized that the coexistence of artificial intelligence with advanced military systems, including nuclear arsenals, poses a tremendous risk.
According to Cameron, the fact that modern warfare requires decision-making in fractions of a second increases the need for superintelligence in managing critical situations. While he hopes that the human factor will remain in the final decision-making stage, he acknowledges that human errors continue to bring the world close to devastating conflicts, even with nuclear ramifications.
Cameron highlighted three main threats to humanity's future: the climate crisis, nuclear weapons, and the uncontrolled development of artificial intelligence. He stated that all three of these threats seem to be peaking simultaneously, a confluence that, in his opinion, places the planet at a perilous crossroads.
