The Epstein Files: The more desperate Trump’s distractions become, the more it appears that he has something to hide

The Greek Courier

It will be quite challenging for the White House to shield us journalists from the Epstein files, even with all the distractions stemming from Putin, the Clinton subpoena, or the authoritarian push in Washington, D.C. While the latter may indeed represent a significant crisis, the Epstein files hold a wealth of explosive information, and the President seems to be entrenched in the middle of it all.

So let's get to it right away, starting with the Vice Prez, JD Vance, who accidentally made a strong case for releasing the Epstein files, as his defense of the Trump administration's about-face on the files doesn't make sense.

In a Fox News interview with Maria Bartiromo, Vance remarked, “I find it amusing that Democrats are suddenly so interested in the Epstein files. For four years, Joe Biden and the Democrats did nothing about this story. We know that Epstein had many connections with left-wing politicians and billionaires. Now, President Trump is calling for full transparency, yet the Democrats are attacking him instead of the Biden administration, which was inactive for four years.”

Vance’s comments only strengthen the case for releasing the Epstein files.

Contrary to Vance’s claims, Trump has not been advocating for “full transparency.” His administration has shifted its stance on releasing the Epstein-related documents it once claimed to possess. Additionally, Vance’s timeline is flawed; Epstein died in 2019 while Trump was president, giving Trump the first chance to investigate and disclose information regarding Epstein’s connections. It was also Trump’s Department of Justice that granted Epstein a controversial “sweetheart deal.”

Moreover, Vance’s argument suggests that Democrats have more to fear due to Epstein’s connections with prominent liberals, including former President Bill Clinton. This is precisely why many Trump supporters are eager to see the files released.

The Trump administration’s tactics may have worked if the criticism were solely from Democrats. However, a significant portion of Republicans also care about this issue. A mid-July Reuters-Ipsos poll revealed that about a third of Republicans disapproved of Trump’s handling of the situation, with 62% believing the government is concealing information about Epstein’s client list. The same poll indicated that 82% of Democrats shared this disapproval.

Trump’s narrative of “nothing to see here” is further undermined by ongoing reports detailing his relationship with Epstein. The Wall Street Journal reported in July that Trump’s name appears multiple times in the Department of Justice’s files on Epstein. Even if a complete release of files implicated Trump, it’s uncertain how many of his devoted supporters would abandon him. Nevertheless, his attempts to shift the conversation are evident.

Obviously, the Democratic critiques of Trump differ significantly from those of MAGA supporters. Democrats are not suggesting that the Epstein files contain a clear smoking gun that would politically benefit them; rather, they are highlighting Trump and his allies’ claims about releasing the files and the alleged existence of an Epstein client list, only to be met with denials. The more desperate Trump’s excuses become, the more it appears that he—rather than the Democrats—has something to hide.
