BRENTWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- Two people were found dead Sunday at a Los Angeles home owned by director Rob Reiner, prompting the Los Angeles Police Department to launch a murder investigation, officials and sources said.

The deceased were identified only as a man and woman ages 78 and 68 years old, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters responded at 3:38 p.m. to a medical aid call at a home in the 250 block of Chadbourne Avenue in Brentwood, Actor Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer arrive at the premiere party for "The Wolf of Wall Street" at the Roseland Ballroom on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, in New York.

LAPD sources told ABC News that police initially began a death investigation that later developed into a murder case, adding that property records show the house belongs to Reiner.

The LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation, and the department's senior leadership is responding to the scene.

According to a neighbor, actors Billy Crystal and Larry David arrived separately at the home after police. The two comedians stayed briefly before departing, and Crystal "looked like he was about to cry," the neighbor said.

The Reiner family also owns a house across the street from the home where the bodies were found. Reiner and his wife live in one, and his daughter with children lives in the other.

Reiner is known for massive Hollywood hits, including "The Princess Bride," "When Harry Met Sally...," "Stand By Me," "This is Spinal Tap" and many more.

He and his wife, Michele Singer, got married in 1989 and share three children, Jake, Nick and Romy.
