He even specifies that the elections will take place within the next 2-3 months. Read about the Trump ultimatum that preceded it and the extension of time the Ukrainian president is asking for.

The pressure from US President Donald Trump on his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, appears to be unbearable, regarding the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict and the achievement of a peace agreement with Russia.

Suddenly, Zelensky seems willing and ready to hold elections in his country, calling on his American and European partners to assist in the security of the electoral process. He even specifies that the elections will take place within the next 2-3 months, if – as he said – security is guaranteed. In this context, he stated that he would ask parliament to prepare the necessary legislation to make it possible to hold elections during martial law.

Earlier, a Financial Times report revealed that Trump had issued a new ultimatum to Zelensky to respond to the existing proposal for Ukraine. It is recalled that Trump's plan includes particularly onerous terms for Kyiv, such as the cession of territories in exchange for vague security guarantees from the US. A source familiar with the timeline said that Trump hopes an agreement will be reached "by Christmas."

All this comes at a time when Zelensky is reportedly asking for time credit before responding to Trump's plan, and at the same time publicly maintains that Ukraine and its European partners will soon be ready to present "improved documents" for the peace plan to the US.

⇒ The European Union reacted with obvious embarrassment to the direct attack launched against it by Trump, keeping a low profile, possibly fearing not to come into conflict with its valuable ally.
