COPENHAGEN - GREENLAND
Once again, the world is witnessing live episodes of so-called security and stability delivered by imperialist alliances like NATO, with Greenland setting the scene this time.

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Copenhagen and other Danish cities, as well as Nuuk in Greenland, protesting against recent statements by US President Donald Trump regarding the potential annexation of Greenland. The demonstrators, holding Danish and Greenlandic flags, chanted slogans such as "Greenland for Greenlanders" and "Kalaallit Nunaat" (the Greenlandic name for the island), demanding respect for the self-determination of the local population.

The mobilizations come after Trump's threats, while 85% of Greenlanders oppose joining the US. Concurrently, a bipartisan delegation from the US Congress expressed its opposition to the Trump administration's policy in Copenhagen.

Exercises from the EU, tariffs from the US

At the same time, Denmark and European NATO member states are conducting military exercises in the region "to assert their sovereignty," while in a lengthy post, Trump announced the imposition of tariffs on eight European countries – Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland. The tariffs will amount to 10% for all goods entering the US from February 1st and will increase to 25% on June 1st, remaining in effect until an agreement is reached that allows the US to purchase Greenland.

The US President argued that Greenland is crucial for US national security and for the operation of the "Golden Dome" anti-aircraft system, emphasizing that only the United States can secure the region against the ambitions of China and Russia. At the same time, he stated that Washington remains open to negotiations with Denmark and the involved countries.

Earlier today, Denmark and the US began talks on Greenland, with Danish Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, clarifying that the dialogue is not aimed at abandoning American plans, but at establishing a common framework, and that Greenland's sovereignty and integrity are inviolable. The meeting was attended by US government officials, including J.D. Vance and Marco Rubio.
