An artificial crisis, at Israel’s command, is the migration crisis unfolding since Thursday at Spain’s borders. The objective of the Israeli destabilization plan is to undermine and overthrow Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, because the social-democratic politician supports Palestine and refuses to become Israel’s obedient instrument, as nearly all European prime ministers have become.
Sánchez has been targeted by Israel because, together with South Africa, he brought it before the International Criminal Court on charges of committing genocide in Gaza. The result was the issuance of an arrest warrant for the Israeli prime minister. Sánchez recognized the State of Palestine, received Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Madrid with the honors of a head of state, held a joint press conference with him, and called Palestine a “brother state.” In 2025, Sánchez banned arms sales and the import of any kind of goods from illegal Jewish settlements. He has also repeatedly called on the EU to impose on Israel whatever sanctions it imposed on Russia over the war in Ukraine.
Sánchez: a red flag for Israel, Trump, and the far right
Sánchez further worsened his position by also coming under Trump’s scrutiny. The reason was Spain’s reluctance to increase its military spending, as the United States demanded of all NATO countries so that American arms manufacturers could secure business and those politicians who feed off them could secure revenues. Spain devotes 2.13% of its GDP to military spending, while Trump has demanded that countries contribute 5%. As a result, at the recent summit of the military alliance in Ankara, Trump outdid even himself in theatricality, delivering a tirade of insults against Spain: “I don’t want to have anything to do with Spain. Cut off all trade with Spain, even travel. Don’t even talk to them. They are desperate, bad people,” he said, prompting every serious person to appreciate Spain anew.
Sánchez gave lessons in principled politics, standing out as an exception within European social democracy’s submission to imperialism and opportunism, beginning above all with his conduct at home. He was elected leader of the Social Democratic PSOE party in 2014, but in 2016 the party barons forced him to resign because he refused to form a coalition government with the right. In 2017, he regained the leadership with the help of party members, to whom he appealed by putting the need for democracy first. In 2018, he was elected prime minister on the basis of a narrow and fragile majority. In 2023, he granted an amnesty to those who had participated in the referendum on Catalan independence, thereby closing a festering wound that had divided Spain, naturally provoking the anger of the right.
Sánchez also managed to become a red flag for the European right after his decision to legalize 500,000 undocumented migrants (in a country of 50 million inhabitants and out of a total of 1.2 million undocumented migrants). Against this backdrop, the migration crisis appeared to vindicate the attacks by the global right against him, ranging from the neo-Nazi Elon Musk, a supporter of Kasidiaris, to Italy’s neofascist Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who called for Spain’s participation in the Schengen Area to be suspended. Although Meloni’s reaction was directed at domestic politics and sought to outdo the far-right former general Roberto Vannacci in anti-immigration demagoguery—Vannacci is slowly but steadily encroaching on her electoral base—she succeeded in turning Spain’s migration issue into a European crisis.
The ICC prosecutor took on Israel and they brought him down
The campaign to remove International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan created a new precedent: Israel took responsibility for the campaign from the outset and made no attempt to hide it.
The dirty work against Sánchez, commissioned by Israel, Trump, and the European far right, was undertaken by Morocco in a way it knows well: using poor and desperate migrants.
It did the same thing in 2021, when in a single day it pushed 6,000 migrants into the enclave of Ceuta in order to punish Madrid for taking a lenient stance toward the ever-present Polisario Front, a separatist movement that, with Algeria’s support, seeks the independence of Western Sahara. Spain has an additional reason for its interest in Western Sahara—which some African states have recognized as the Sahrawi Arab Republic—because it administered the territory until 1975. Eventually, in 2022, Spain adopted Morocco’s position, namely limited autonomy for Western Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty, prompting Algeria to recall its ambassador from Madrid.
Algeria: the straw that broke the camel’s back
The rift between Spain and Algeria appeared to be closing following Sánchez’s visit to Algiers on July 20, on his return from New York, where he had watched the Spain–Argentina football match and enjoyed his national team’s victory. The meeting between the Spanish prime minister and Algeria’s political leadership inaugurated a new relationship between the two countries, as Sánchez put it literally. This relationship is based primarily on economic cooperation, since Spain imports 34% of its natural gas, in liquefied form. Executives from the four Spanish energy companies—Repsol, Naturgy, Moeve, and Enagás—who accompanied Sánchez set off multiple alarm bells in Washington, which does not hesitate to wage even wars in Ukraine and Iran to secure liquefied natural-gas transportation contracts for American energy multinationals. And it is forced to watch Spain buy gas from its competitors…
In other words, behind Trump’s theatrics toward Spain lies U.S. pressure on Sánchez to become… Mitsotakis and turn his country into a terminal for American gas pipelines. The United States, both to undermine Sánchez’s government and to court Morocco’s king, officially challenged Spanish sovereignty over the two enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla, which lie in North Africa within Morocco’s borders and were flooded in recent days by Moroccan migrants. In May 2026 alone, a U.S. House of Representatives committee described, for the first time, the two Spanish-administered enclaves as “Moroccan territorial land that constitutes a longstanding Moroccan claim.” It was the first time the United States had intervened on this issue, stoking a hot front between two countries, naturally to Morocco’s benefit. Needless to say, if the United States truly cared about the sovereign rights and territorial integrity of third countries, it should begin by withdrawing from Guantánamo… Its motives, therefore, did not stem from principles and were entirely self-interested.
The expulsion of Spain from the two enclaves had even been encouraged by Netanyahu’s son, who lives in Miami. In a post, he called on Arabs and Muslims to take present-day Spanish possessions back under their control! In this way, he was building bridges with Arabs and Muslims while also demonstrating his hatred for Sánchez’s Spain. Above all, he was demonstrating the destabilizing role played by Israel.
And in the case of Ceuta and Melilla, it is not only the fate of their approximately 170,000 mainly Spanish inhabitants that is at stake. They live in the enclaves surrounded by enormous fences. What is also at stake is the fate of the Strait of Gibraltar, which is 14 kilometers wide and through which 100,000 ships pass every year. There are three control points: one British, a genuine remnant of colonialism (Gibraltar, since 1713), and two Spanish ones (one on the African coast at Ceuta and the other on the European coast at Tarifa).
Spain’s abandonment of Ceuta and its handover to Morocco—which is subordinate to Israel and the United States—as plausible as it may seem, and however much it might complete Morocco’s territorial sovereignty, would in practice amount to an expansion of American imperialism and Zionism, which would then control access to the Mediterranean from the Atlantic. It is no coincidence that the Zionist ambassador to the UN criticized Spain in a post, asking it to apologize for maintaining colonial enclaves in Africa. Israel, a hybrid of colonialism and imperialism, created through the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, is bothered by colonialism…
Although Morocco only officially established relations with the apartheid state in December 2020, as part of the Trump-inspired and Trump-designed Abraham Accords, thereby becoming the sixth Arab League state to betray the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative—which provided for the normalization of diplomatic relations in exchange for Israel’s withdrawal from the occupied territories and recognition of the Palestinian state—it had always maintained channels of communication with the Jewish state.
Relations between the two countries were upgraded and intensified in January 2026 with the signing of a military cooperation agreement providing for arms sales to Morocco and for what Israel knows how to do better than any other state: creating tensions for its own benefit through the use of third countries.
If we put Greece in Morocco’s place and Turkey in Spain’s, we can discern a model of foreign policy that Israel consistently follows, seeking strategic partnerships not for the sake of peace and stability, but solely to expand tensions and conflicts through useful idiots (Morocco and Greece, respectively) against states that, for very different reasons, stand in its way (Spain and Turkey, respectively), gradually turning the entire Mediterranean into a Middle East.
This is Israel’s plan!
Morocco, even with the assistance of its police, was directing desperate migrants to flood the two Spanish enclaves, pushing Madrid to reconsider maintaining them and immediately punishing Spain for the principled position it has taken toward the genocide of Palestinians. It was no coincidence that, on the very same day, the entire Israeli leadership was congratulating Morocco’s corrupt and hated king on the 27th anniversary of his accession to the throne.
Israel’s plan succeeded. Another hostile country is being tested…
