The country has been enveloped in African dust since this morning, with Attica at the epicenter of the phenomenon.

February 15, 2026
According to data from the National Observatory of Athens, the concentrations of particles that traveled from the North African desert will gradually increase, with the phenomenon expected to peak around midday. Visibility in the basin is already limited, as the sky remains particularly hazy.

The path of the African dust:

Although Attica is facing a significant problem, the highest dust concentrations are expected in southern Greece, with particular emphasis on Crete, the Peloponnese, and the South Aegean. Later in the day, the phenomenon will extend towards Northern Greece, generally affecting the southern Balkan region, as the air mass moves northeast.

When the phenomenon subsides

The gradual weakening of the phenomenon is expected to begin tonight. According to meteorologists' forecasts, the dust will start to recede during the night hours, with the phenomenon expected to have completely subsided by 08:00 AM tomorrow, at which point the atmosphere will clear completely.

The photos from Eurokinissi and Intime show the hazy landscape across Attica due to the accumulation of African dust in the air.
