Relax, "New America" is just a post, he hasn't renamed New Mexico yet

And who cares anyway? When we get rid of him, we will bring back the old names and make more jokes about it.

There is an almost delicious historical paradox in “New America,” for obvious political reasons: New Mexico itself is already the product of centuries of colonial naming. So replacing it with “New America” does not remedy the malaise of colonial history. Instead, it adds another layer of post-colonial naming on top of it. Which is so Trump! But really, don’t you know this is simply his way of provoking his opponents and generating headlines? New Mexico’s governor has treated it as an unserious distraction.

And there is no great significance in doing so, just as there was none when he recently ordered Lake Ontario to be renamed “Lake America” amid an escalating trade war with Canada, or when he sought to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. It is an old man’s way, so take it for what it is, and hopefully reality will return to its base in 2028.

After all, it is not clear why the post appeared in the first place, and no further explanation was given. The image was also shared on social media by the White House without any clarification. No Google ordering, no maps updates are necessary, although cartographers probably don’t mind the business, no matter where it comes from.

But the most important thing to remember is that his latest move comes as Mr. Trump faces a test of his popularity in November’s midterm elections, with a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll showing his approval rating at 33%, the lowest level of his political career.

As Republicans seek to defend slim majorities in the House and Senate, the old man’s whims almost guarantee an easy election for the Democrats. And it’s not gonna take a debate, like the one Biden lost, to prove that his brain has vacated his skull. By November, his fixation with everything he dislikes will probably become stronger and, probably — I will not bet on it — he may even try to rename Canada, not just one of its lakes, but the whole country.

You know, messing with white folk is one thing; dissing First Nations is another. They have an ally in Mother Nature, and look what’s been going on with the greenery lately. But hey, that is a reaction dating back to the day the Natives got involved in the casino business. He probably looked at it and said, “This is a hostile takeover. This is what I do. I am the casino business.”

So now, at the twilight of his life, he is trying to make all the Native toponyms disappear. I suppose somewhere in the American wilderness there is a Chickamauga Lake, named after the Cherokee people who historically lived in the area, correct? Well, if Trump had the time, he would probably give it a more familiar name, like Lake Kushner or Bibi Lake.

“Hopefully, by November, he will discover that his name-changing days are over — unless, of course, he wants to change his own name to Triantafyllides, emigrate to Russia, and wait for his MAGA Volk to call him home.”
