Ottawa Police say they are responding to a “barricaded man” in Parliament Hill’s East Block.

The update comes about two hours after the Parliamentary Protective Service declared a lockdown in the eastern wing.

The alert directed people to seek shelter in the nearest room, close and lock all doors and hide.

Those not in the immediate area are asked to stay away until further notice.

The alert was issued at 2:45 p.m. Ottawa time.

Those on lockdown are asked to wait for further instructions from first responders.

Christoper Nardi, a National Post parliamentary reporter, said a police bomb squad may be part of the operation.

Sen. Patrick Brazeau posted “stay safe Ottawa” on X, along with a screenshot of the alert.

This is a developing story.
