US forces attack Iran for first time in weeks, reports say

US forces reportedly struck Iranian military sites near the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday night — the first military action taken against Iran since US President Donald Trump paused attacks a month ago.

Iranian media reported explosions near Larak Island.

A US official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the Associated Press, and Axios that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had been preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the strait.

The US said last week that it had finished clearing Iranian sea mines from the strait's international shipping routes.

The IRGC said in a statement that the attack on Sunday night "will be answered by the sons of Iran and will result in the punishment of the aggressor."
