When Leavitt left, Trump wrote this on Truth Social: “Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party, as we work to defy History, and conclusively win the Midterm Elections.” Fox News has just given that voice a microphone.
Karoline Leavitt left the White House at the end of August, saying she had reached a point where she could not give her two young children the attention she wanted while carrying the demands of the press secretary's job. President Donald Trump said he understood, and announced that she would remain one of his top outside advisers and an influential Republican voice. Six weeks later, the next stop is Fox News.
Fox announced Monday that Leavitt, 29, will become an on-air contributor beginning Nov. 1, providing commentary and analysis across the network. Fox highlighted precisely what makes the appointment useful: her firsthand experience in the Trump White House and on his presidential campaign.
There is nothing particularly mysterious about the sequence. Before entering the White House, Leavitt worked for Trump's 2024 campaign and MAGA Inc. After leaving the administration, she confirmed that she would return to Trump's super PAC while continuing as an outside adviser. Now she is moving into television.
That makes the path unusually easy to trace: campaign, White House, Trump political operation, television. And it is worth noting that this is not an entirely new American political custom. Former White House press secretaries routinely move into media. Kayleigh McEnany went from Trump's first administration to Fox News; Jen Psaki moved from the Biden White House to television; Dana Perino made the same transition after serving George W. Bush.
What makes Leavitt's case interesting is the timing and continuity of her actions. She didn’t leave politics entirely; rather, she stepped away from a government job that she found difficult to balance with family life. We don't have enough evidence to claim that she left because she struggled with the White House printers or the Turkey situation. Moreover, Trump immediately referred to her as someone who would remain politically influential.
Then came MAGA Inc., followed by her role at Fox News, where she will have a regular platform to interpret the political landscape she has just exited through Trump's Political-Media Pipeline. This reflects how modern American politics operates: individuals who help shape messages within the government can transition almost seamlessly to the platforms that influence messages outside of it. Leavitt is not moving away from Trump's political sphere; she is simply changing her venue to "Defy History" and help save the Midterms. The microphone is moving with her.
