British Prime Minister Andy Burnham told the House of Commons on Monday that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was “almost certainly” behind a suspected plot targeting RAF Fairford, a British air base used by the U.S. Air Force.
The incident occurred on September 27, when police arrested five men after reports of suspicious activity involving three vans near the base in Gloucestershire. The suspects were subsequently released on bail without charge, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The United States later withdrew 12 B-1 bombers stationed at Fairford amid security concerns. British authorities have announced sanctions against two Iranian nationals and indicated that further measures against Tehran may follow.
Iran has denied involvement in the alleged plot.
