Police attacked thousands of peaceful protesters in downtown Athens

Today, unprovoked attacks by police vehicles throwing water targeted unarmed and peaceful demonstrators at the large gathering in Syntagma Square for Tempi.

The police crackdown on the grand gathering at Syntagma for punishing the perpetrators of the Tempe crime reached its climax on Friday at approximately 4:00 PM in Athens.

After using chemicals and tear gas against the demonstrators near the Parliament, Propylaia, and Korai Square, a large number of people returned to Syntagma Square completely unarmed and with no intention of using violence.

Then the Greek Police suddenly deployed its vehicles to disperse the thousands of people gathered in the square. This action conveyed a clear message: despite the protesters’ demands for justice for the victims of the tragedy, they had to break up the demonstration and leave the country’s largest square.
