Upon request of a conspiracy theorist Trump fires the head of NSA

In an unexpected twist that could only happen in the Wild World of Trump, Gen. Tim Haugh was given the ol' heave-ho from the NSA, seemingly because the President's favorite conspiracy theorist, Laura Loomer strolled into the White House and started calling the shots.

Haugh, who apparently was just trying to make the cyber world a safer place, was let go after a year in charge, and with that, he also took Wendy Noble along for the ride—maybe to start a new podcast called “Fired but Fabulous.” Lucky for them, they probably won't need to worry about personal security with all the job offers flooding in from tech companies desperate for someone who isn't afraid of Russian hackers and cyber-spies.

Senator Mark Warner had the best reaction, asking, “How does firing him make Americans any safer?” It’s a great question—maybe the administration thinks firing people is the key to better cybersecurity? “Hey, we could really use a strong leader right now… but how about we just keep firing people until we find one who can correctly identify what a phishing scam looks like?”

So, here’s to General Haugh: may your future endeavors be as filled with surprises as a White House meeting with Laura Loomer. And let’s hope the next NSA chief comes prepared with a solid cybersecurity plan—and a good sense of humor!
